Since 2012, Brian Communications has been at the forefront of PokerStars’ triumphant journey in the United States, serving as the trusted U.S. Agency of Record for one of the largest online and mobile gaming and interactive entertainment companies in the world. PokerStars faced a unique challenge in re-entering the U.S. market after a hiatus and turned to Brian Communications to take the lead in formulating and executing a comprehensive corporate communications strategy, guiding the company through complex legislative and regulatory landscapes. The agency played a crucial role in PokerStars’ successful launches in New Jersey (2016), Pennsylvania (2019), and Michigan (2020). 

Our Approach

New Jersey: Brian Communications orchestrated a multidirectional strategy in collaboration with PokerStars’ corporate and government affairs teams. The focus was on grassroots mobilization, engaging former players to advocate for PokerStars and encouraging legislative bodies to welcome the company back into the market. The campaign’s success was evident as PokerStars secured the majority of the market share within a remarkable 90 days, significantly contributing to the growth of the online poker category in the state. 

Pennsylvania: Building on the success in New Jersey, Brian Communications supported the government affairs team in their efforts to pass regulated online gaming in Pennsylvania. This involved mobilizing tens of thousands of Pennsylvanians through the Poker Players Alliance, leveraging grassroots efforts, and utilizing media relations to highlight the state’s loss of taxable revenue to New Jersey. 

Beyond the U.S., Brian Communications extended its support to PokerStars’ international events in Brazil, Monaco, Spain and the Bahamas. The agency managed media relations and facilitated the presence of PokerStars’ high-profile ambassadors, including Kevin Hart, Cristiano Ronaldo, Aaron Paul, Rafael Nadal, Neymar Jr., and Hank Azaria. 

These international events not only bolstered PokerStars’ global presence but also showcased the agency’s ability to navigate diverse cultural landscapes and manage high-profile personalities, contributing to the success of each event. 

Today, Brian Communications has evolved into an integral extension of PokerStars’ global communications group. The agency’s role has expanded from its initial strategic focus on New Jersey and Pennsylvania to delivering a spectrum of services tied to event execution, sponsorships, community engagement, media relations, and creative services.
